May Day

May Day is a celebration of the coming of Spring, as well as a bank holiday. It’s an ancient holiday in many cultures, including in the UK where it is a time of maypole dancing, village fetes, community gatherings and cake sales.

It is associated with Spring and fertility as well as the organised labour movement, as May Day is ‘Labour Day’ in many parts of the world. While there isn’t an official Labour Day in the UK, there is a May Day march every year in London that is organised by trade unions and community groups. The march starts in Clerkenwell Green at noon and ends in Trafalgar Square. Our MStay apartments are just a short walk away from the final destination, and won’t break the bank either.

Of course there will be other events on May Day as well. The Priory Arms is holding a beer festival in South Lambeth, the last day of which is on May 1st. The festival ends at 11pm. There’s also an RHS flower and flea market over the May bank holiday weekend at the Flat Iron Square on Union Street. There’ll be plant pots, retro clothing, jewellry and ceramics on sale, as well as workshops and talks by the Royal Horticultural Society, who are hosting the event.

There’s lots to do besides, so why not book a three day weekend with MStay and explore all that London has to offer this May bank holiday?
